"Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government's purposes are beneficial. Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evil-minded rulers. The greater dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding." - Louis Brandeis
Sorry for the second comment but in my work with Ashima - near Cal Tech (one of several things that I do), we've interacted with Google quite a bit, and in particularly the people who actually invented Google Earth. Saying that what they do is 'very smart' is one of the understatements of the century.
No, terrorists cannot build totally cool technology, they can only blow things up...
Interesting that you asked, because (I edited this out of the blog to get people to focus on the videos, which may be long, kind of like this aside...) not 4 years ago I was tasked with interviewing a guy who saw 'middle-eastern-looking-men' who were photographing government buildings downtown. Some people, including those in prominent positions, were very concerned...until I showed them GoogleEarth, which had just went on-line, and that sometimes people taking pictures are just people taking pictures....
