Why I Am a Conservative...

"That which hath been is that which shall be, and that which hath been done is that which shall be done; and there is nothing new under the sun."

h/t Euripides

...oh, and Ecclesiastes.  But, in my world, it is less spiritual, but just as real.

I am a conservative because the precepts that underpin modern conservatism work in the real world.

Socialism and collectivism in all its permutations do not work for any period of time in the real world. The utopianism espoused by Obama is rooted in Das Kapital and it has been shown that it only leads to misery.

Let's go with what works.

Conservatism speaks to America's roots and the wellsprings of human rights to achieve with limited government. Therefore I am conservative.

I don't need nor do I want a nanny to run my life from cradle to grave.

I am a conservative because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. Progressives are uncomfortable with sovereign individuals, however the key to conservatism is taking personal responsibility for your life and for your actions.

---furthermore, the origins of liberalism in America are envy and jealousy. A competent and self-confident person is incapable of jealousy in anything. Jealousy is invariably a symptom of neurotic insecurity. If this concept is odious to liberals and progressives, I make it a point never to insult anyone by accident.
